On Saturday March 1st, the wrestling team participated with 11 wrestlers at the Meet Of Champions at Pinkerton Academy. Mya Coombs was the only wrestler participating in the finals and finished in second place and will travel to Providence RI next Saturday. Everyone else finished with at least one win on the day and some valuable experience for next year. Noah Kittridge and Nate Post finished out their High School careers with some excellent wrestling.
Saturday Afternoon the Admiral Hockey Team faced the Green Wave of Dover and jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period but 2 Admiral penalties mid way through the 3rd period allowed Dover to tie the game at 3 and then get the game winner before the horn sounded to beat the Admirals 4-3 and spoil Senior Night. Braydon Atwood became the all time leading scorer in a single season scoring the first and second goal for Milford. Bryce Larco had the second goal, and Braydon and Dylan MacLeod each had an assist. Congratulations to our Seniors, Braydon, Bryce, Luc Pelletier and Logan Howard as they have one more regular season game at Lebanon before heading back to the playoffs.
Tuesday, the Girls Varsity travelled to Hollis Brookline. They struggled a bit in the first half, but picked up the pace in the 3rd quarter to beat the Cavaliers 52-22. LuLu Maguire led the Spartans with 5 , 3 pointers and 15 points while Avery scored 12.
The boys team hosted a strong JV team and led through the first 3 quarters, but the HB size wore down the Spartans in the 4th quarter to win 47-38. It was a balanced attack from Milford with Josiah Cherries and Kris Car leading the way with 9 points.
The Varsity Boys again, played their hearts out and dominated play in the first half, but HB battled back in the second half with the game going back and forth down the stretch. Unfortunately, the Cavs struck last to score with 2.5 seconds to go to win it 53-52.
Will O'Connell played a great game scoring 21 points and Tyler Constable chipped in with 15.
This was the second game in a row, the boys left it all on the floor only to lose it in the last seconds. They should be applauded for their efforts.
The Ice Hockey team travelled to Lebanon and ran into a hot Lebanon team to beat the Admirals 6-3. Braydon Atwood scored one of the goals for Milford and Dylan McLeod and Bryce Larco each had an assist. The Admirals finished 6th and will likely travel to Phillips Exeter to play St. Thomas on Saturday March 8th at 4 pm. Stay tuned as more updates will come out tomorrow. The team will have pictures Monday prior to practice so will be dismissed at 1:30 pm.
Thursday evening the Boys Varsity Basketball team played their final game of the season but could not overcome the Spartans of Pembroke. Congratulations to Matt Gaumont, Josh Berry, Kenyon Sora and Will O'Connell, who played their final high school game of their career. We wish them the best in their future endeavours.
The JV team lost to Pembroke 65-37, but came back to host the first annual Spartan JV Tournament. Milford won the first game 51-48 as they came back from behind in the last two minutes to get the win. In the semi final game, Milford was competitive but could not close the gap and lost 43-35 which put them in the Consolation game where they came within 3 of ConVal in a 50-47 loss, to finish 4th.
On Friday the Lady Spartans played tough in the JV game and led in the first half, but could not close it out in a 44-36 loss.
The Varsity team finished the regular season in second place with a 47-35 win over the Spartans of Pembroke. Avery Fuller finished with 16 points and LuLu Maguire finished with 13. Ellianna Nassy did a great job on the boards and with her defense. The Girls will get a bye in the first round and play the winner of Bow and possibly Coe Brown depending on the tiebreakers. That game will be on Saturday, March 8th at a time to be determined. The two big wins this last week to finish in second place earned the Spartans the Team of the Week honors.
This past Saturday, The two Milford Relay Teams earned a top billing for New Hampshire at the New England Track and Field Championships in Boston. Great job to Avery Wilson, Will Whitley, Logan Korthals, Chase Paiva, Grant Skorupan and Kenyon Sora. Avery and Will also competed well in the 55 and 600 respectively.
