The Lady Spartans field hockey team faced off last night against long-time rivals, Souhegan High School, in a hard-fought matchup that kept fans engaged from start to finish. While the final score showed a 6-0 loss, it did not reflect the determination, grit, and improvement the Spartans displayed throughout the game.
The Sabers, currently ranked #2 in the division, came out strong and controlled much of the play in the opening quarter, scoring once to take an early lead. Milford responded with resilience in the second quarter, shutting down Souhegan’s attack and keeping them scoreless heading into halftime.
Despite a strong defensive stand, the Spartans began to tire in the second half, and Souhegan capitalized on their opportunities. Still, Milford never stopped battling and created several scoring chances of their own, showing growth and determination with every possession.
Defensively, the Spartans shined. Katelynn Kilmer, Lea Lyons, Nadia Dutton, and Allie Cardin anchored the backfield, coming up with key stops and protecting the circle against Souhegan’s relentless pressure. The midfield unit of Olivia Hamilton, Paige Bernier, and Lily Webster also had a standout night, working tirelessly to transition play and feed the forward line. Their efforts connected with Willa Audley, who sparked several strong offensive attacks and pressured the Saber defense throughout the game.
In goal, the Spartans showcased depth and skill. Violet Renda recorded an impressive 18 saves, while freshman Norah Cardin added another 13, keeping Milford in the game and denying Souhegan on multiple scoring attempts.
The Boys Soccer team traveled to Bow for a tough match up with the Falcons and came out with a 1-1 tie. Kymani Velez-Boggis scored the lone goal with an assist from Eric Arsenov. Darian Bachelder shined in goal making 6 saves.
The Girls Varsity Soccer team also played well against the 2nd seeded Falcons earning a 1-1 tie. Delany Barber was great in goal with 10 saves and Iris Lemaire scored the lone goal assisted by Olivia Hyde.
The Golf team traveled to the Sagamore-Hampton Golf Course for a match up with Souhegan, Winnacunnet and Alvirne. Souhegan came out on top with a 191 followed by the Warriors, Broncos and Spartans.
Jack Bastarache led the way with a 45, Liam Loughran shot a 51, Aydan Dunbar and Parker Mills a 54 and Landon DeFranco at 55 to round out the scoring for Milford.
