The boys tennis team battled, but lost to a tough former D1 Merrimack team yesterday. While the overall match score was 2-7, it does not reflect how competitive all of the matches were. All singles and doubles matches were exciting to watch. Will Emerson and Brady O'Connor were able to win a close number 1 doubles match 8-6, while Marcus Kern and Javier Goodwin were able to bring home a "W" for their number 2 doubles match as well, also 8-6.
The girls tennis team won 5-4 yesterday.. Merrimack had a good #1 player, and a pretty good #2. Winning for Milford were:
Willa Audley at #3 singles 8-1
Lauren Vander-Hayden at #4 singles 9-7
Jordan Gebro at #6 singles 8-4
Lauren Vander-Hayden/Claire Cote at #2 doubles 9-7
Jordan Gebro/Jasmine Blay at #3 doubles 8-6
In #2 doubles, Lauren and Claire were down 7-3 at one point, and then went on to win 7 games in a row to win the match. Way to come all the way back!
The track and field teams traveled to Coe-Brown for the first meet of the season and saw many great performances. For the boys, Josh Pettingell won the 100m and placed second in the 200m. Chase Paiva won the 1600m. Kenyon Sora won the 200m. Logan Korthals and Will Whitley placed first and second in the 400m. Logan, Will, Grant Skorupan, and Kenyon placed first in the 4x400m relay and the 4x100 relay of Josh, Matt Pettingell, Gavyn Tessier and Kenyon placed second. Cam Lewicki and Chase Paiva placed second and third in the Javelin. On the girls side, Bella Cornaro won the 400m and Amelia Hebert won the HJ. Alyssa Post had a big day, throwing a 4 foot PR in the shot put. Great job Spartans!
